If you loved “Your Name” (2016) and “Weathering With You” (2019), then get ready for another masterpiece from director Makoto Shinkai! Toho Company, Limited, and CoMix Wave Films recently debuted the full trailer of Makoto Shinkai’s newest film, “Suzume no Tojimari” (Suzume’s Locking-Up)!
That’s right, Director Shinkai is back! Plus he is once again working with his “Weathering With You” team: Character Designer Masayoshi Tanaka, Animation Director Kenichi Tsuchiya, and Art Director Takumi Tanji.
The latest anime film by the award-winning director follows the story of 17-year-old Suzume. It begins in a quiet southwestern town in Kyushu where she encounters a young man who is looking for a door. When they found it, the hero gets drawn to it and opens it. To their surprise, a series of doors start to open across Japan, causing devastation in each area. Now, she must find and close them all to prevent further destruction!
The teaser released back in April already showcased a snippet of the film’s theme song “Suzume” by actress Nanoka Hara. She also plays the lead protagonist Suzume, who narrates through Shinkai’s signature whimsical elements and life-like landscapes of a reimagined Japan.
“Suzume no Tojimari” will be released in Japan on November 11, with a global release via Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment in early 2023.
