Valenzuela City Educates Curfew Violators with a COVID-19 Awareness Lecture

Valenzuela City has taken a different approach to dealing with curfew violators amid Luzon’s enhanced community quarantine.

Unlike other cities that opt for corporal punishment in response to individuals breaking the mandated curfew hours, Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian has chosen to educate them.

Valenzuela City’s local government unit recently posted photos of their curfew violators undergoing an awareness lecture on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This is intended to help people better understand the importance of quarantine guidelines and sanitary practices, especially underscoring the need to stay at home.

Aside from the awareness lecture, violators are also subject to a Php 5,000 fine for failing to comply with Valenzuela’s “stay-at-home” ordinance. The ordinance stipulates, among other things, an 8 pm to 5 am curfew in the city.

Iloilo City enacted a similar response to curfew violators in their area.
