Palace Responds To SEA Games Complaints: “No Excuses”

Following the logistical issues that teams from Timor-Leste, Thailand, Myanmar, and Cambodia faced once arriving in the Philippines for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Malacañang released a statement this November 24 in response. They apologized for the “unintended inconveniences” and promised an improved experience this 30th SEA Games, moving forward.

“We can no longer undo what has been done. The Office of the President will not offer any excuses. As host country, we apologize for the unintentional inconvenience suffered by our athlete-guests,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo stated on behalf of the palace.

“We are not promising that the Games will run without a hitch, given the countless athletes who will participate and represent their respective countries, but we will exercise due diligence in making sure everyone will have a pleasant, productive and memorable stay in the Philippines.”

The Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) similarly released a statement on the issue. They, too, apologized to the affected teams and explained the circumstances that occurred.
