Â
With branches originating from Tokyo (40 years old), Singapore, Shanghai, HongKong and Makati (14 years), Nanbantei of Tokyo now opens its doors in Bonifacio High Street Central in Taguig.
Â
Â
Â
WHEN IN MANILA and craving for roasted bite-size pieces of meat or veggies, let Nanbantei of Tokyo give you that yummy yakitori fix.
Â
Â
The interior reminds me of Sushi Kushi Toyo, a Japanese restaurant in Lake Forest, Illinois that also serves super yummy skewers and other Japanese dishes. As you can see from the picture, Nanbantei can get pretty crowded – that’s because everyone loves the food here.
Â
Â
Nanbantei offers a free vegetable appetizer and a fresh towel before you start your hearty meal.
Â
Â
The vegetable sauce from Japan can be very addicting – perfect with any yakitori dishes. It tastes like smoked soybean paste. Yum!
Â
Spicy Tuna Maki (Php 160)
This was delish! The negi added more flavor to the spicy tuna mix while the tempura flakes gave it its crunchy texture.Â
Â
California Maki (Php 180)
Usually, a california maki only contains crab meat, cucumber and mango. Nanbantei makes it special by adding ebi in it. Plus, they use a bigger kind of ebiko in their rolls. *chomp chomp*
Â
Poteto Maki (Php 95)
Bacon wrapped potato – a sure hit to kids and adults alike. The potatoes were like huge fries. So good!
Â
NOTE: Yakitori orders are two sticks each unless otherwise specified
Â
Beef Yakiniku (Php 180)
Â
A MUST TRY in Nanbantei! It was very juicy, tender and flavorful. I was raving about this all day! I had to ask what made it so good. I got my answer: Nanbantei only uses U.S. imported beef for all their beef items.
Â
Yakimeshi (Php 100)
Â
Japanese fried rice – a perfect complement to Nanbantei’s skewers
Â
Shishitou (Php 50)
Imported Japanese pepper – another must try on the menu. Don’t forget to dip it in the special Japanese vegetable sauce.
Â
Aspara Maki (Php 80)
If your kids do not eat veggies, then give them Nanbantei’s veggie yakitoris wrapped in meat. They wouldn’t notice that they’re already eating some greens.
Â
Pork Garlic Yaki (Php 125)
Â
Enoki Maki (Php 125) – definitely one of my favorites
Â
OnigiriÂ
Â
I enjoy eating yaki-onigiri (grilled rice balls) and when I saw it in Nanbantei’s menu. I just had to order one.Â
Â
Â
I had the onigiri with salmon flakes inside and asked the staff to grill it for me. It was okay. You might want to order this for the kids – best enjoyed using their bare hands 🙂
Â
Tebasaki (Php 110) –Â Chicken wings on stick
Â
Shitake Maki (Php 190)
Â
Shitake wrapped in juicy imported beef. This is Nanbantei’s beef yakitori equivalent of enoki mushroom wrapped in bacon.
Â
Kawa (Php 65)
Â
Chicken skin skewers seasoned with salt. It was so crispy on the sides and juicy inside – reminds me so much of CHICHARON BULAKLAK 😀
Â
Â
Nanbantei sparsely marinades the food that’s why you get that clean taste of the meat and veggies; and, they use an electric griller for a more even temperature to provide customers perfectly grilled yakitori dishes.
Â
Namajake Sumi Yaki (Php 235)
Â
A good treat for seafood lovers out there – Nanbantei’s grilled salmon rolled with bacon.Â
Â
Unagi (Php 350)Â
Â
OMG! This was so good! I ate it whole – even the skin, which was grilled to a crisp finish. YUMMEH!
Â
Â
I have no idea how we finished all those sticks but we did and we will definitely come back for more.
Â
Green Tea Ice Cream (Php 100)
Â
Yes, it’s not a cactus plant but a yummy Big Scoop green tea ice cream.
Â
Coffee Jelly (Php 110)
Â
Nanbantei makes the coffee jelly from scratch – you can really taste and smell the difference.
Â
WHEN IN MANILA, go to Nanbantei of Tokyo to thoroughly enjoy a memorable Japanese culinary experience; and, have a beer bucket for only Php 360 – best enjoyed with Nanbantei’s best seller platters.
