Lav Diaz has done it again.

After just winning the Alfred Bauer prize in February at the Berlin International Film Festival for his film “Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis” (A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery) which stars Piolo Pascual and John Lloyd Cruz, Diaz has yet again brought pride to the Philippines as he won the Golden Lion award, the top prize at the 2016 Venice Film Festival, for his film “Ang Babaeng Humayo” (The Woman Who Left). The film, all filmed entirely in black and white, stars former CEO and president of ABS-CBN, Charo Santos-Concio.
“This is for my country, for the Filipino people, for our struggle, for the struggle of humanity. Thank you, thank you so much,” the 57-year-old director said as he accepted his award at the fest.
