Medical doctor and mental health advocate Gia Sison passed away at the age of 53.

The Asociación de Alumnas de Poveda (AAP) first confirmed the news on March 21, stating she died at 1:44 p.m. “surrounded by her family and loved ones.”
“Wife, mother, daughter, sister, hermana, and friend. Doctor, podcaster, host. A mental health warrior, cancer survivor, and celebrity all the days of her life. Her light continues on in all whose lives she touched,” the post read.
Her husband, Rogin Sison and daughter, Angela Sison also confirmed her passing through a heartfelt tribute on their respective Facebook accounts.
The cause of her death was not disclosed. Earlier this month, Gia revealed that she experienced dying for six seconds after suffering aborted sudden cardiac death on February 25.
“I died for six (6) seconds, stuck in a black hole then suddenly scooped back in with the prominent voice of my husband repeatedly asking me to ‘come back’ after which I heard him apologize for defibrillating me and the rest just happened so fast,” she captioned her post.

Known for her battle with breast cancer, she has been vocal about raising awareness of the disease and sharing her experiences. She served as a consultant for the World Health Organization Western Pacific Regional Office on Health Lifestyle in the Workplace and as head of Makati Medical Center’s Women Wellness Center.
As a mental health advocate, she led the Livestrong Foundation and the National Adviser of the Youth for Mental Health Coalition. Gia was also among the podcast hosts of “Walwal Sesh” and “The Linya-Linya Show.”
