Dolly de Leon continues to slay.
Recently, the actress announced that she was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The organization is behind the Academy Awards or the Oscars.
On Instagram, de Leon wrote, “My dream has always been clear to me – to work with artists I admire and respect. This was never part of the plan. So did I ever dream of this to happen? No. Did I ever even wish for it to happen? No. Because I never thought it could.”

She added, “But it’s happened and it’s a step closer to the goal and gives many others like me HOPE. For those of you who dare to dream, know that nothing is impossible. Now it’s your turn. Laban!!!”
De Leon is one of the 398 artists and executives “who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to motion pictures.” Other recent invitees include fellow actors Stephanie Hsu, Keke Palmer, and Ke Huy Quan.
According to the Academy, its “membership process is by sponsorship, not application. Candidates must be sponsored by two Academy members from the branch to which the candidate seeks admission.”
Academy Award nominees, however, are automatically considered for membership and do not require sponsors.
After they are sponsored, they are “reviewed by branch committees and recommendations for membership are considered by the Academy’s Board of Governors. The Board decides which individuals will receive invitations.”
Members can vote in their categories and Best Picture in the Oscars nomination.
De Leon joins a prestigious list of Filipinos who are members of the Academy, including Lav Diaz, Brillante Mendoza, P.J. Raval, Lisa Valencia-Svensson, Josie Trinidad, Trevor Jimenez, Bobby Pontillas, Baby Ruth Villarama, and Ditsi Carolino.

De Leon was part of Triangle of Sadness, which won the Palme d’Or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. It is the highest prize awarded in one of the “Big Five” major international film festivals.
De Leon was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globe Awards and the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA). She was also awarded Best Supporting Performer at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
De Leon played Abigail, a mild-mannered toilet manager who becomes a survivalist and team leader. The actress has earned praise for her role, with Variety saying that “her every line has so far prompted cheers in press and public screenings alike.” It adds that she “doesn’t get very far in Cannes without being stopped in the street by enthusiastic fans.”
