KC Concepcion Seeks Help and Funding to Complete US Film

KC Concepcion is asking the public for help after her US-based film hit financial problems during production.

In an Instagram post she shared on Friday, June 10, she revealed that the filming for the movie “Asian Persuasion,” directed by Tony Award-winning theatrical producer Jhett Tolentino and also starring “Avatar: The Last Airbender” voice actor Dante Basco, is already done and that it just needs to recover the funds lost from a 12-day production pause after a main talent had contracted COVID-19.

“The filming is done, now the hard work begins. And YOU can help bring our movie to the FINISH LINE,” said KC in her post.

“I said YES to this movie “Asian Persuasion” because I grew up not seeing a Filipino who looked like me, or other girls like me, on American TV or in Hollywood films. Having the chance to be part of this Asian-American romantic comedy as a FILIPINA means MORE to me than just getting an acting job in America. I think I speak for so many ASIAN actors who grew up wishing and waiting for this time to come for us to be SEEN, HEARD, and REPRESENTED, in all our different skin tones, body shapes, and backgrounds.”

“This movie is about family, relationships, love, failures, resilience, success, and fighting for what you love. That’s why this story is YOURS, as much as it is mine,” she added. “This is US. Made by us. Made for us. And made to represent us.”

According to the fundraiser on the Seed&Spark website, the production pause costed the crew US$100,000 in production expenses. The film is currently in post-production with an expected completion date of September 2022.

“ANY amount would help — but most importantly, as we aspire to see our stories, our faces, our languages, our music, our talent, our skill, and our cultures, we can come together right now… one Asian project at a time,” KC ended on her post.

“Asian Persuasion” is being planned to be shown at a major film festival in early 2023, and then at international film festival circuit before being released in movie theaters.

Dante and KC will be playing Mickey and Avery who are a divorced Asian American couple who live in New York City. Mickey, a slacker, owns a run-down coffee shop in Queens after letting go of his dream to be a fine-dining chef due to his parents’ sudden death while he was still in college. Meanwhile, Avery is a career-driven woman who owns a fashion design business in the Lower East Side. The film will follow Mickey who schemes to get Avery to marry someone else just so he could avoid giving her financial support that he cannot afford, only to realize that he wants to have a second chance with her.
