Suspected COVID-19 Cases Try To Escape Philippines After Lockdown Declaration

A total of 3 individuals who have either tested positive or are currently being monitored for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) attempted to escape hospital admission and mandatory quarantine. The police reported these cases this March 13, Friday.

Eastern Police District Chief Jaime Santos claims that a woman in San Juan tried to evade authorities after testing positive for COVID-19. She allegedly escaped her police escorts to board her car and was chased to a hospital parking lot in Quezon City.

According to San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, the woman wanted to be admitted to her preferred hospital. Upon finding out she could not be admitted she was escorted by authorities to a different hospital.

Two other patients currently under investigation escaped a quarantine area in Sarangani Province. The police report states that the two individuals escaped to Davao in hopes of taking a flight to Manila. They were said to have plans of flying out to Japan.

The police tracked them to a hotel in Davao this Friday. The siblings are now confined in the isolation facility of Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City.
