Steve Irwin’s daughter, Bindi, Just Got Engaged At 21

Bindi Irwin, daughter to the late crocodile hunter Steve Irwin, has only recently gotten engaged — on her 21st birthday, of all days! Her boyfriend of nearly 6 years, Chandler Powell, proposed to her last July 24 at the Australian Zoo. She announced on both her Instagram and Twitter pages: “On my birthday I said ‘yes’ & ‘forever’ to the love of my life.”

According to CNN, the couple met at the Australia Zoo in 2013. Chandler had been visiting the zoo the day before a wakeboarding competition and Bindi just so happened to be giving tours that day. He was amazed by her from the onset, sharing on his Twitter: “Almost 6 years ago we met at Australia Zoo. I immediately fell head over heels for your kind and thoughtful heart that radiates so much light.”

Though this is undoubtedly one of her happiest moments, Bindi shares it is actually quite bittersweet. She shared with Entertainment Tonight that “in the moment it was so incredibly special, but then at the same time, for me on a personal note, there’s … there’s people who I really wish could be here today for this time in my life. Particularly dad. I wish that he could be here to be getting excited and welcoming Chandler to the family.”

Bindi plans to honor her late father at her wedding by asking her 15-year-old brother, Robert, to walk her down the aisle. She said, “I think that for me, it’ll be really important that Robert walks me down the aisle […] And I think that’s what dad would have wanted as well.”
