Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated’s producer Tony Cervone has confirmed to fans of the animated series that the clever brunette we all know and love, Velma Dinkley, was, in fact, a gay woman!
Cervone confirmed this news when he had to stop two Scooby-Doo! fans arguing in the comments section of an Instagram post made in celebration of Pride Month which featured Velma and another character, Marcie Fleach, together.
One fan had complained about what the post was insinuating and urged that Velma was “canonically” attracted to Shaggy Rogers. However, another rebuked the statement by citing an interview done by the series director wherein it was “confirmed” that Velma and Marcie were both bisexual and that plans for Velma and Shaggy to breakup were in the works.

It was then when Cervone decided to chime in to clear the air once and for all.
“I’ve said this before, but Velma in Mystery Incorporated is not bi. She’s gay,” he wrote. “We always planned on Velma acting a little off and out of character while she was dating Shaggy because that relationship was wrong for her and she had unspoken difficulty with the why. There are hints about the why in that episode with the mermaid, and if you follow the entire Marcie arc it seems as clear as we could make it 10 years ago.”
“I don’t think Marcie and Velma had time to act on their feelings during the main timeline, but post reset, they are a couple. You can not like it, but this was our intention,” he added.
