Since his appointment, Director General Ronald dela Rosa has garnered attention on social media and has understandably racked up his own set of fans, but the Philippine National Police warns against using the PNP official’s name in creating fake Facebook accounts.
The PNP Police Community Relations Group (PCRG) has issued a warning against individuals who are behind the fake Facebook accounts to deactivate their pages or face criminal charges.
While some of them are simply fanpages, most of the pages are used to extort money from those seeking help directly from dela Rosa, the PNP has learned.
The division has assigned policemen to monitor the activities of the 28 fake accounts using dela Rosa’s name, and are also conducting background checks to trace the identities of those setting up the fake pages.
