‘Captain Marvel 2’ has already been confirmed, but it seems not everybody is happy about it. In fact, some people have gone so far as signing a petition to replace Brie Larson in the titular role.
Care2 Petitions, a website for citizen-based calls to action, hosted the petition called “Demand Captain Marvel is Played By a Woman of Color, Not Brie Larson!” Apparently, they need Brie Larson to step down from her role to prove she is an ally of social justice and ensure a gay woman of color plays the role. They also mention that they are tired of the straight white men running Disney white-washing characters.
Fans are referring to the first female incarnation of Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau. Although Monica was in the first ‘Captain Marvel’ movie and will be in the ‘WandaVision’ series on Disney+, it seems fans want her to have a bigger role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
