Eighteen year old singer/songwriter Tala Gil, who goes by the pseudonym TALA, and who happens to be Nikki Gil’s cousin, started posting covers on a YouTube account early this year. This October, TALA takes it a step further by releasing an original composition, nothing personal, debuting as her single.
When asked about her music, she had this to say: “I don’t write about specific experiences I’ve been in, really. I usually just think of hypothetical situations and try to write from that headspace. One day, a good friend and I were chatting about how silly it is that there are those who expect more from people right away. Sometimes it can be as innocent as appreciating beauty, nothing more than that. It’s really not that deep on the onset. Nothing personal.”
On her creative process, TALA says she’s all for artistic collaboration. “I am motivated when given the opportunity to work with other people who like to be introspective about the littlest things,” she adds. “I consider myself very fortunate to be surrounded by insanely talented family and friends. It’s refreshing.”
TALA’s single nothing personal is now available on all digital platforms, and her debut EP is set to be released early 2018.
