#NewDynasty Mr. and Ms. Chinatown 2017 Celebrates the Modern Chinoy

Undeniably, pageants have become an inextricable part of the Filipino culture. In fact, the country has recently been dubbed as a powerhouse in pageantry. This love for pageants, they say, is ingrained in our system and could be traced back to the American colonial period, when women from different regions across the country gather in traders’ fairs to represent and promote their localities. Now, almost every Filipino town and institution has its own small-time local competition from which someone with the right qualities to personify the community’s pillars will reign. From this concept, Mr. and Ms. Chinatown was created.

What sets Mr. and Ms. Chinatown apart, however, is that it is the Chinoy culture that it puts in the limelight. More than finding ambassadors who possess the Chinoy brand of beauty and excellence, this pageant aims to strengthen Filipino and Chinese relations, as well as the fusion of the modern and traditional customs. Most of all, Mr. and Ms. Chinatown advocates the pride in the Chinoy heritage.

It is for such cause that Chinoy TV, together with the Miss Chinatown Foundation, ensures that the pageant transpires yearly until it becomes stitched in the very DNA of the Chinese-Filipino community. Every year since its creation in 2013, Mr. and Miss Chinatown, through the different themes and the new set of candidates, highlights a different aspect of the Chinoy.

Now, the overwhelming support it has gotten through the years, particularly during the 2016 edition, led us to once again take on this mission with a bigger and bolder vision. With the theme, New Dynasty, the pageant seeks to create a redefined image of the Chinoy, that which is characterized by the graceful combination of traditional values and a contemporary, progressive stance. Mr. and Ms. Chinatown: New Dynasty is anchored on the belief that the modern Chinoy is open-minded and ready to brave change and new heights.

In line with this, we are honored to introduce the newest batch of Mr. and Ms. Chinatown hopefuls, hailing from different regions of the country, namely: Metro Manila, Baguio, Cebu, and Davao, who will compete for the prestigious titles.Through our wider reach, we hope to find the ones who are most fit to represent the excellence of the Fil-Chi youth in leadership, the arts, entrepreneurship, and academics — those who are deemed worthy to be called Chinoy cultural ambassadors.
