The Executive Order 26 (E.O. 26) or also known as the Nationwide Smoking Ban takes effect today, July 23.

The Department of Health (DOH) made a formal announcement of this via Facebook.

They said:

NATIONWIDE SMOKING BAN
Effectivity of E.O. 26 (Providing for the Establishment of Smoke-free Environment in Public and Enclosed Places) begins on July 23, 2017

NO SMOKING in enclosed public places and conveyances

Violations shall be subject to applicable sanctions under R.A. 9211

Report violations to DOH Hotline (02)711-1002

President Rodrigo Duterte signed the order in May. It bans smoking in public places, which is a fulfillment of his campaign promise to implement the similar smoking ban that is in effect in Davao City. The president was mayor of the city for more than two decades.

With this implementation, smoking is not allowed in public and private transportation utilities, and also in establishments such as schools, hospitals, clinics, food preparation areas, and locations in which fire hazards are present.

This also came with a poster to remind everyone where the ban is effective and what we can do to report violators.

Although E.O. 26 bans smoking in public, it does not cover vapes and e-cigarettes.
