If you loved Moulin Rouge!, the 2001 movie starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, we have great news for you: the musical adaptation swept this year’s Tony Awards with 10 wins!
The musical was nominated for 14 awards. It was the second most nominated production following Jagged Little Pill‘s 15.

Best Orchestrations for Katie Kresek, Charlie Rosen, Matt Stine, and Justin Levine
Moulin Rouge! tells the story of a young writer named Christian, who falls in love with a courtesan at the Moulin Rouge named Satine. A rich duke (and a lot of drama and politics) get in the way of their relationship, though, and they have to hide and fight for their what-seems-to-be-doomed love.
The movie, directed by Baz Luhrmann, was nominated for eight Oscars back then, including Best Picture. It went on to win the awards for art direction and costume design.
The movie was adapted into a jukebox musical in 2018, with songs in the original film and additions from Adele, Katy Perry, Sia, Rihanna, Beyoncé, and more.

This run of the Tonys was supposed to be staged on June 7, 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The awards was hosted by Audra McDonald and Leslie Odom Jr.
