For the edibles, they have Basil, Chives, Cilantro, Hot Pepper, Lettuce, Tomato and Wild Rocket (Arugula), and for the ornamentals, they have Marigold, Sunflower, and Zinnia.
I chose Arugula because it is the favorite of my husband, brother and sisters. So, why am I the odd man out? Well, not particularly. For if they love it, then I am sure I will learn to love it. That’s why I am growing it. *wink*
Arugula Seeds
Arugula is a very healthy option for green salads. According to research, it shares the same nutritional benefits with other more popularly known vegetables in the cruciferous family, such as broccoli, kale and Brussel sprouts.
I also chose Cilantro as we already have basil at home in Bicol and I knew that my mom, who is the first “garden enthusiast” I’ve ever known, would surely love to add this to her collection.

I also chose one ornamental, the Marigold, as we do not have one in Bicol yet. More flower power!

Just like any expanding city, a tiny shoot will sprout out every now and add up to the fast propagation of your garden plants. So, if given the opportunity to transfer them to bigger pots or an opportunity to grow them in a wider lawn, that would be even better.
The most important thing to note, though, is that you now have the opportunity to grow your own garden, potted or not, when in Manila or not. Let’s just say it is one way of communing with Mother Nature, something that is now a rarity if you live in the city like I do. I grew up loving nature so much that when I came to the city, longing for nature was something that I had to fight whenever I got homesick.
Now, however, I can go home after a long day at work with all the traffic and pollution and find myself stumbling upon a quaint picture of my own little garden. That. Is. Priceless.
Growing them plants cut the separation anxiety by providing a way to be one with my inner self and where I came from and be one with Mother Nature even in my own little apartment. Having said that is such a “breather” looking at your growing plants made possible by MNL Grow Kits.
I am starting to grow my own. Grow yours, too!
