Jamaican Woman Could Now Be The World’s Oldest Woman

Violet Brown of Duanvale, Jamaica is now believed to be the world’s oldest living person at 117 years old.

The Jamaican native’s distinction comes after the death of Italy’s Emma Morano, who was born on Nov. 29, 1899.

Violet was born on March 10, 1900.

Although Violet hasn’t been declared by Guinness World Records as the oldest person living as of yet, her sufficient documentation should shoe her in as a serous contender.  According to Robert Young, director of the supercentenarian research and database division at Gerontology Research Group:

“She’s the oldest person that we have sufficient documentation for at this time.”

Guinness, however said that it was researching candidates for the title of world’s oldest person, adding that no confirmation would be given until the fact-finding process is complete.

According to Associated Press, Violet lives with her 97-year-old son, and has two caregivers. Violet is also able to sit up by herself and walk short distances. Despite being hard of hearing, Violet is also able to answer in swift and complete sentences.
