Fans all over the world have been freaking out over the news, especially since this is the first time in 25 years that the basketball anime will be hitting screens once again. Not much is known about the movie and who will be working on it but one thing’s for sure: we’ll be counting down the days ’til it premieres!

In 2020, Takehiko published a magazine titled “PLUS/SLAM DUNK ILLUSTRATIONS 2” which included over 130 illustrations that were drawn in the past and used for other publications, plus 11 new ones specially created for the compilation with the goal of reigniting interest that fans once had for the original manga.

Slam Dunk was serialized from 1990 to 1996 in Weekly Shonen Jump before being collected into 31 volumes. It was then adapted into anime which was broadcast worldwide. The anime consisted of 101 episodes.

Slam Dunk is still known for being one of the best-selling manga series of all time and one of three pioneering sports-centered stories in the 90s. It follows the story of a high school delinquent who eventually joins his school basketball team in order to impress a girl. When he comes to fall in love with the sport, he then pursues a new dream: to win the national championship.
