“Good Omens” is officially getting a second season!

Director Douglas Mackinnon and author Neil Gaiman finally confirmed the long-speculated season 2 of the widely-loved Amazon Prime show “Good Omens,” on the evening of June 29, Tuesday.

“What glorious (and dangerous) trouble will our favorite angel and demon find themselves in this time? ?? Good news! #GoodOmens is returning for Season 2 on @PrimeVideo,” Gaiman said in a Tweet as he shared the official poster which featured main characters Aziraphale (played by Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) standing under the rain while looking at Aziraphale’s burning bookshop and Crowley’s prized Bentley.

Both Sheen and Tennant will be reprising their roles for the series and will start shooting later this year in Scotland.

Not much is known about what the second season will be about since it will be extending beyond the original source material that is Gaiman’s novel of the same name co-written with the late Sir Terry Pratchett. Gaiman will also continue being the executive producer and co-writer of the script.

He also gave a hint on what the new story will be in an interview with BBC. “There are so many questions people have asked about what happened next (and also, what happened before) to our favourite Angel and Demon,” he said. “Here are the answers you’ve been hoping for. We are back in Soho, and all through time and space, solving a mystery, which starts with an angel wandering through Soho, with no memory.

When asked about how he feels about returning to the show, Tennant had nothing but good words to say. “The return of Good Omens is great news for me, personally. As I get to work with Michael again, and I get to say Neil’s wonderful words once more,” he shared. “It’s probably less good for the universe as it almost certainly means there will be some fresh existential threat to its existence to deal with, but, you know – swings and roundabouts…”

Sheen, meanwhile, expressed his initial doubts about pursuing a new plotline. “Personally I’m against it, but the world isn’t going to just save itself, is it? If David and I can manage to not fall out too badly this time it may even have a chance of getting finished,” he said.

“Good Omens” follows the story of an angel and a demon who have been roaming the earth since the beginning of time who form an unlikely partnership to save humanity from the foretold apocalypse.
