Proposed by the Manila Teachers party-list, its Representative Virgilio Lacson explains that the bill aims to aid teachers in “making ends meet.” Alleviating the economic strain that teachers undergo would “assist them in instilling skills and values to students” as well as recognize them for their contributions to the country.

As with other discounts on fares, a teacher would be entitled to a 20% discount upon showing their duly issued and validated school employee’s ID. A Professional Regulation Commission ID would also be acceptable.

Refusal of a discount would be grounds for complaint and can be formally filed with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board for land public transportation utilities, the Maritime Industry Authority for sea public transportation utilities, the Legal Service of the Department of Transportation for rail transportation utilities, and the Office of the Local Chief Executive for tricycle.

However, the bill will still have to gain approval from both the House of Representatives and the Senate before passing into law.
