After almost a decade, Singapore’s Changi International Airport is no longer recognized as the world’s best after Skytrax released its annual ranking at the World Airport Awards.

Changi, which has consistently been on the top spot for the past eight years, fell two places down the list behind Doha’s Hamad International Airport, this year’s winner, and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, which took second place and an award for Cleanest Airport.

Filling up the rest of the Top 10 list are airports in Europe and in Asia, with Japan taking three spots. See below for the complete rankings:

  1. Hamad International Airport
  2. Tokyo Haneda Airport
  3. Singapore Changi Airport
  4. Incheon International Airport
  5. Tokyo Narita Airport
  6. Munich Airport
  7. Zurich Airport
  8. London Heathrow Airport
  9. Kansai International Airport
  10. Hong Kong International Airport

Despite losing its crown, Changi Airport excels overall as it was recognized for having the World’s Best Airport Staff, Best Airport in the 10 to 15 million Passenger category, as well as Best Airport Staff in Asia. Travelers and even local Singaporeans love Changi particularly because of its stunning architecture, its many shopping and dining areas, and the variety of unique leisure activities you can do to pass the time!

Hamad International Airport, however, has been earning much-deserved attention recently also for its world-class architecture, eco-friendly features, public art displays, and health and wellness facilities. It’s also worthy to note that it is home to Qatar Airways which is inarguably among the best airlines in the world.

The World Airport Awards are based on customer votes through a global airport satisfaction survey that was conducted from August 2020 to July 2021.
