Wondering what movies fans are looking forward to the most in 2018? Well, wonder no more: movie ticketing website Fandango released a poll of fansโ most anticipated movies of 2018, and the results are in.
Still popular among movie fans are superhero blockbusters, fantasy adaptations with large fanbases as well as resurrected franchises and animated films. It’s a big win for Disney, as the film company manages to have all these elements on the list.
Without further ado, here are the most anticipated movies of 2018. Which one are you looking forward to?
10. Ocean’s 8 (June 8)
The all-female cast starring powerhouse leads such as Sandra Bullock,ย Rihanna, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, and Awkwafina. If that’s not enough to get you riled up for the film, Ocean’s 8 sees the girl gang planning to pull off the heist of the century at the Met Gala.
9. X-Men: Dark Phoenix (November 2)
Marvel fans are looking forward to the next film in the X-Men franchise, which sees the return of Jennifer Lawrence, Sophie Turner, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain and Nicholas Hoult. A dark force tries to overtake Jean Grey’s mind, which spurs Mystique, Beast, Storm, Nightcrawler and the rest of the X-Men into action.
8. A Wrinkle in Time (March 9)
Walt Disney Pictures is behind the live-action adaptation of the popular children’s book A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. The movie showcases a powerful cast including Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Zach Galifianakis, Chris Pine, and Mindy Kaling, and is directed by Ava DuVernay, the first black woman to direct a live-action film costing over $100 million.
7. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (November 16)
Potterheads already have something to look forward to towards the end of 2018 with the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, where Eddie Redmayne returns as Newt Scamander. We finally get to see Jude Law and Johnny Depp portray young Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald, respectively.
6. The Incredibles 2 (June 15)
The sequel to the Disney-Pixar film The Incredibles has been a long time coming, and could not come fast enough as it premieres in theaters on June 15. The movie will see Mr. and Mrs. Incredible switching roles, with Elastigirl out to save the day while Bob Parr takes care of the children at home. The Incredibles and Frozone, however, will be battling it out with a new villain, The Underminer.
5. Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25)
Star Wars fans are clearly excited about the young Han Solo backstory, despite the hullabaloo that’s surrounded the making of the film including a last-minute change in directors (Ron Howard took over Phil Lord and Christopher Miller after the two were fired by Lucasfilm due to creative differences), and a reported hiring of an acting coach for lead actor Alden Ehrenreich after Lucasfilm wasn’t happy with his performance. The film also stars Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, and Woody Harrelson.
4. Untitled Deadpool Sequel (June 1)
Not much is known about the Untitled Deadpool Sequel, but Ryan Reynolds is returning as the foul-mouthed antihero, and he’s taking on some ninjas, the yakuza, and some aggressive canines, and that’s all we really need to know to get excited about Deadpool 2.
3. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 22)
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which marks the return of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as Owen and Claire, sees them returning to Isla Nubar to save the rest of the remaining dinosaurs from a volcano about to erupt.
2. Black Panther (February 16)
The much-awaited Black Panther solo film is rolling around soon, and we finally get to see Chadwick Boseman shine on his own as he protects his kingdom from enemies threatening to take it down.
1. Avengers: Infinity War (May 4)
Topping the list is another Marvel blockbuster. In Avengers: Infinity War, we finally see Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and the rest of the Avengers reuniting to defeat their strongest enemy yet, Thanos, who is out to complete all six Infinity Stones.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Marvel films Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther have topped the list.
The next Avengers film, to be released in May, claimed first place, while Februaryโs Black Panther, featuring Chadwick Boseman in the lead, placed second.
Boseman made his debut as Black Panther in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, alongside Chris Evans as the titular comic book hero, and is about to make his solo debut when the movie comes out in February next year.
