The production to be streamed will be the Hairspray Live! adaptation that first aired on NBC in 2016 which stars Maddie Baillio, Jennifer Hudson, Kristin Chenoweth, and Ariana Grande. It was nominated for seven Emmy Awards and won three, making it a definite must-watch!

This is the sixth musical to premiere on Webber’s YouTube channel which aims to raise funds for actors and performers whose livelihoods were affected by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It will be available to watch for 48 hours starting May 29, 7 PM BST (May 30, 2 AM Manila time).

Set in 1962 Baltimore, Hairspray follows the story of a plump and talented teenager named Tracy Turnblad who wins a spot in the popular TV dance program The Corny Collins Show. After becoming a local celebrity overnight, she then sparks a social change as she begins to campaign for the show’s racial integration.

It premiered on stage in 2002 and was later turned into a film in 2007 starring Nikki Blonsky, John Travolta, Christopher Walken, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, James Marsden, Zac Efron, and Amanda Bynes.
