No, this isn’t a movie: Gerald Anderson has been named as an auxiliary officer with rank of lieutenant for the Philippine Coast Guard.

The actor is now part of the K9 Special Support Squadron, due to the K9 search and rescue unit he established under the Gerald Anderson Foundation (GAF). The unit uses trained dogs to help find missing persons and assist in emergencies.

To be an auxiliary officer, an applicant must attend a series of orientations, followed by a three-month probation period where the applicant must be present in all meetings and activities. After the three month period, the squadron director will review the applicant’s performance and documents to see if they are qualified to join.

Anderson has joined trainings, including a five-day scuba rescue diving certification and an intensive specialized training on Water Search and Rescue.

Earlier this year, Anderson’s father Randy and brother Ken were named as auxiliary officers with rank of commander and lieutenant respectively.
