Gary Valenciano Reveals That He Beat Cancer!

Gary Valenciano

Performer Gary Valenciano worried fans when he revealed that he had to undergo an emergency open heart surgery last May, when his anterior descending artery was found to be blocked due to diabetes. There, he found out that he had kidney cancer. But we don’t have to worry because Valenciano beat cancer and he’s now doing okay!

His cancer was revealed when ABS-CBN released a preview of tonight’s episode of Rated K, where he was interviewed by its host, Korina Sanchez-Roxas. He told the host, “Meron pang ibang nangyari. Meron pa silang ibang nadiskubre.”

Valenciano’s battle with cancer began after his 35th anniversary performance on ASAP, when he felt a severe pain in his chest. He found out that he had what is called the “Widow Maker,” a condition found mostly in males. His chest was opened, his heart harvested, revived, and put back in his chest. The surgery was successful but after some lower back pain, doctors accidentally found a malignant tumor attached to his kidney.

This surgery was also successful as doctors were able to extract the tumor. Thankfully, Valenciano doesn’t need chemotherapy or radiation. He is now cancer-free.

In a tweet, Valenciano added that, “do know that I am now okay… and I’m ready to come back soon.”
