To mark the 25 Years of the European Union’s Erasmus Scholarship Programme, the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines in collaboration with the EU Cultural Group, EU Cultural Institutes and the Commission on Higher Education will hold the second “European Higher Education Fair Manila 2012: Brighter Prospects” on 14 November 2012 at The Peninsula Hotel. A total of 20 European Higher Education Institutions will exhibit at the Fair which is open to the public for free from 2:30 pm to 8 pm on 14 November.

EU Ambassador Guy Ledoux said that the main aim of the European Higher Education Fair is to give Filipino students the opportunity to talk directly with representatives of universities and higher education establishments from across Europe about the vast array of study opportunities available in Europe in every subject and discipline.  “Through the European Higher Education Fair, we also hope to increase the number of Filipino scholars availing themselves of the Erasmus Mundus Mobility and Scholarship Programme which has already benefitted almost 200 Filipino scholars, students and researchers”.

Ahead of the main exhibition, an EU-Philippines Partnership Symposium will take place on the morning of November 14 at the Manila Peninsula Hotel. The event aims to promote partnerships between European and Philippine Higher Education Institutions by providing a platform for understanding and discussion to strengthen higher education cooperation between the EU and the Philippines.

Speakers have been invited to discuss the European higher education framework and how the Philippine institutions can facilitate successful working partnerships within this framework. Representatives from the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Education will discuss the state of play in higher education and the rationale and status of the current K-12 initiative in preparation for higher learning.

The symposium will include presentations from European Member States’ Ambassadors and Philippine institutions affiliated within the Erasmus Mundus scheme. Case studies will also be presented to illustrate successful EU and PH partnerships with the hope that invited local institutions can replicate these strategies.

EHEF Manila 2012 is made possible with the assistance of EU Member States’ Embassies and Cultural Institutes in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education. Media partners for this year include Inquirer.Net, Travelife Magazine and WheninManila.com. The First European Higher Education Fair was successfully held in the Philippines in February 2008.
