DGY Academy Social Entrepreneurship: Doing Business With Social Responsibility

Entrepreneurs are known to find opportunities in any given circumstance no matter how challenging. They are resourceful and innovative and can turn challenges to advantages. There are various models of entrepreneurship that one can subscribe to. One of the more progressive models where profit and social impact are integrated is the social enterprise model.

Social entrepreneurship is doing business with the main goal of impacting social change and supporting the marginalized sector. Of course, you cannot do business without profit, but in this case, profit is not the main goal but rather a tool for sustainability–to fuel the main goal, which is to help the marginalized sector.

DGY Academy is an online personal development consultancy company, founded by Strength & Conditioning Coach Paulo Agir, based in Manila. Since April 2020, It has been hosting free webinars every weekend with a specific theme each month. It featured topics on Nutrition, Mental Health, Personal Finance, Entrepreneurship, among others.

DGY ACADEMY SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

It was created to serve as a channel for local success stories from accomplished individuals in the country with the goal of uplifting the morale of our countrymen and with a bigger purpose of promoting a growth mindset in Filipinos to spur them to achieve their full potential. To name a few of the featured guest speakers, we had leading entrepreneur RJ Ledesma of Mercato Centrale Philippines, DJ and Podcaster Patty Tiu, Strength & Conditioning Coach of several national teams and athletes Coach Chappy Callanta, professional athlete and sportscaster Sel Guevarra, and our very own Olympian Hidilyn Diaz.

To date, the academy has hosted 100 free webinars every weekend and has grown into a community of more than 1,000 followers on Dagohoy Academy  and Dagohoy Academy Sports and Coaching Development Facebook pages combined. The ASEAN Youth Organization (AYO) has also partnered with us in empowering the youth and forwarding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The academy initiated fund-raising drives to provide PPEs to healthcare workers, essential packs for families of garbage collectors as well as an education drive through book donations for children in Aparri. We were able to provide PPEs for over 300 healthcare workers and 4 hospitals, essential packs for 325 families of garbage collectors, and 200 books were collected and sent to Aparri.

This November, DGY Academy will feature various social enterprises that have creatively weaved profit and social impact in order to contribute and align to the sustainable development goals.

Tune in every Saturday, 4:30-5:30 PM and Sunday 4:00-5:00 PM to DGY’s Facebook page for this informative and empowering series.

To cap this series, DGY will further what it has started, launching its Corporate Social Responsibility Program focusing on empowering families of garbage collectors in partnership with Leonel Waste Management Corporation. This will kickstart with a fundraising effort with a target to raise 500,000 for 1,400 families. To ensure a holistic empowerment approach, DGY will curate personal development and skills-based workshops for the program recipients.
