Christian Bautista Wants to Take Board Exams Someday: ‘Showbiz Won’t Always Be There’

Before Christian Bautista entered the local entertainment industry, he was a landscape architect hopeful. Graduating from the University of the Philippines Diliman, he had his life plan set in place — that is, until the opportunity to join talent search Star in a Million presented itself to him.

Now, years later, Bautista has made a name for himself for being a successful recording artist. However, he revealed that he still thinks about pursuing what he had studied in college.

“I still want to take the board exams someday — perhaps become part of an architectural firm in whatever position or capacity. I always meet with my former classmates and professors,” he said in an interview with Inquirer. “Ayokong sayangin ’yun.”

He added that he wants to help design the future house he and his wife Kat Ramnani will eventually build. “I will have to start as a draftsman, if ever, and work my way up. But I think it’s all a matter of relearning things and connecting with my colleagues.”

However, Bautista is still thankful for the opportunities that went his way to bring him to where he is now.

“Of course, I had to carefully weigh my options,” he said. “At the end of the day, I took [the opportunity] because I felt it was going to be worth it. And it was. It changed my direction in life.”

He does try to advise young ones aspiring to enter showbiz to finish their studies before doing so, so that they may have a backup plan in the future. “My friends like Erik Santos finished college later on in their careers. The offers won’t always be there. Showbiz won’t always be there.”
