William Lin used to have a pet chicken. Sadly, their relationship didn’t end well. He shared on a Facebook group called “Subtle Asian Traits” that when he was a kid, he had a pet chicken and one day, the chicken just went missing.
He said:
In response to the guy who raised a bunch of chicks only to be eaten by his family, I raise you my story.
I too raised a chick in China, who would become my favorite pet named [Pe Nis] (yes I know what that means now, I was six years old okay I didn’t know). Anyways, I would play with [Pe Nis] every day, taking him for walks and what not.
So, one day I came back home from school and I noticed that [Pe Nis] was gone. I asked my parents where he went and they said he was taking a nap (idk why I f***cking believed them). But I went with it anyway and ate dinner with the fam.
We ended up having chicken soup for dinner (which was ironically my favorite meal growing up). Again, I was six, and I was a pretty stupid kid honestly, so I didn’t connect the dots. After dinner, I asked my parents if [Pe Nis] was done with his nap. They said. “he’s not feeling very well, I don’t think he’s going to wake up anytime soon.”
My grandparents pulled me over to the side and told me the truth. I ended up crying for five days because I not only lost my pet/friend: I f***cking ATE him!
And people wonder why I have trust issues.
This is quite a tragic story. However, after William sharing his story, many people also shared about having a pet when they were little only to find their buddy served on the dinner table.
