According to This Survey, 4 out of 10 Filipinos Are in Favor of Legalizing Divorce

According to a survey by Octa Research, four out of 10 Filipinos are in favor of legalizing divorce.

The survey was conducted from September 30 to October 4, 2023, and asked 1,200 respondents face-to-face.

It reported that 40% are in favor of passing a law legalizing divorce, while 51% oppose it. The remaining 9% are undecided.

Octa Research said that the survey had a ±3% margin of error, and a 95% confidence level.

Here are more details from the survey:

Area

In terms of location, respondents in Mindanao scored the highest in supporting a divorce law at 48%. This is closely followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) at 46%. The lowest support of a law legalizing divorce is from Visayas at 33%.

The Visayas also scored the highest in opposing divorce at 59%. The lowest opposition was found in Metro Manila at 39%.

Socio-economic class

In terms of socio-economic class, Class D scored the highest in supporting a divorce law at 42%. The lowest support came from Class ABC at 29%.

Class ABC respondents in the NCR placed the highest in opposing divorce at 70%

Age

In terms of age, respondents aged 18 to 24 gave the highest support for a divorce law at 54%. The lowest support came from those aged 75 and above at 8%.
