Argentine Embassy & Big, Bold Young & Old Malbec

 

 

When In Manila, who would say no to an invitation that spells P-O-S-H, while, it said Malbec when turned around? Indeed. Marked on the 17^th of April, World Malbec Day  in Manila commemorated the official accomplishment of the 7^th President of Argentina on his mission to transform Argentineans’ wine industry.

 

 

 With careful planning, Top of the Citi at the Citibank Tower was a perfect choice to gather hotel and restaurant managers, journalists, diplomats and other distinguished guests for World Malbec Day. Taking the iconic LBD (little black dress) to another level, the ladies looked elegant as they cling to their gentlemen who emerged as equally sharp in their bespoke suits or tux, simultaneously guzzling on big, bold, young and old Malbecs.

 

 

 

This global celebration, with the cooperation of Argentine Embassy, boasted of an array of Argentine varietal wines.That’s right. Although Malbec (purple grape variety used in making red wine), was uprooted from its native French soil and is also grown in South Africa, Chile, Australia and in the United States, it has been increasingly celebrated in Argentina when, on April 17, 1853, Michel Aime Pouget, an agronomist, was given the task of bringing over new grapevine cuttings, by then Argentine President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, that should boost the national wine industry. Amongst Pouget’s selection was Malbec which is now being highlighted as part of Argentines’ artistic and cultural expression.
