There are lots of buffet restaurants popping up all over Metro Manila, but unfortunately, they can be a hit or miss. So, I was personally pleasantly surprised upon discovering Cafe 1228 in Makati. This just might possibly be one of my top favorite buffet restaurants in the city.
Cafe 1228 is the in-house buffet restaurant of New World Makati, a luxury 5-star hotel in the heart of Makati CBD. While this hotel has been around for almost three decades, the restaurant is worth rediscovering.
Located on the ground floor of New World Makati, Cafe 1228 offers gastronomic breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets all days of the week! That’s right, you can enjoy an unparalleled culinary experience any day you choose. We had the time of our lives when we tried their buffet for breakfast and dinner.
Start the day with a sumptuous breakfast buffet
The breakfast buffet at Cafe 1228 features local and international breakfast staples. They’ve got unlimited chewy and crispy bacon (yes, it’s cooked in two different ways); crispy hash browns; Filipino breakfast classics such as beef tapa, garlic rice, and dried fish; and even Japanese dishes such as grilled salmon or white fish in teriyaki sauce, tamago with teriyaki sauce and bonito flakes, and miso soup.
We also enjoyed the customizable dishes from the egg and omelet station; the cheese, and charcuterie section; and the pancake station! The extensive array of pastries and bread was also remarkable thanks to the many choices.
If you’re aiming for a healthier breakfast option, or you’ve got kids with a tiny appetite, you’ll enjoy the unlimited supply of cereals, fresh fruits, salad, and muesli.
And even though it’s a small and simple thing, I actually appreciated the fact that they also have different kinds of milk—non-dairy options included.
Another massive plus is the DIY taho station!
A breakfast buffet at Cafe 1228 is the best way to start a busy day—and it’s also the best place to end the day.
Lunch and dinner buffets any day of the week
Cafe 1228 also offers luxurious lunch and dinner buffets that feature gastronomic food stations that are worth going back for.
The highlights of Cafe 1228’s lunch and dinner buffets are definitely the carving station and the fresh seafood station.
The carving station features barbecue beef brisket or rump, sausages, chicken and pork spareribs, and succulent roasted ribeye grilled to perfection right in front of you.

The fresh seafood section—which is my favorite part of this restaurant—has prawns, mussels, and crabs that are cooked in your choice of sauce. We enjoyed heaps of freshly-grilled seafood thanks to this section!
Of course, the lunch and dinner buffets also feature a variety of culinary specialties including a Japanese and Asian station, a Western station with European and Mediterranean cuisine, and a charcuterie and cheese section. You can even get freshly-made hand-tossed pizzas!
