Namamasko Po! Spreading Christmas Cheer with Children

This Christmas season, students amidst the pandemic continue to give it life by providing children in need with activity kits, food items and gift packages. This year, U.P. Pre-Medical Society, a student organization known for its community initiatives, is once again holding their annual PAMASKO.

A gift-giving initiative that aims to celebrate Christmas with children in need, PAMASKO 2021 is sending gifts and donations to the children of CRIBS Foundation, Inc. Currently housing 56 children, the foundation is a residential home for abandoned, surrendered, neglected, and dependent children as well as sexually abused female minors. Together, the foundation seeks to meet their physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs. As part of its vision, CRIBS continuously seeks to create a safe and loving space that is conducive to the healing and recovery of these children. CRIBS aims to work towards the reintegration of the children into society through formal education, therapy, counselling, and other services which help foster holistic development. In CRIBS, healing through the arts is an important part of the recovery process as well.

This COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected not only the physical needs of these children, but, more so, their social and psychological needs. Limited visitors in the foundation brought about by the restrictions due to the current pandemic has compromised opportunities for these children to interact with people who may play a vital role in their healing and recovery.

That being said, the UP Pre-Medical Society, a university-wide socio-academic organization, has organized a Christmas project that specifically addresses the needs of the children of CRIBS. This project not only aims to provide them with basic necessities such as baby care products and food, but also activity kits that would be useful in their daily activities. These kits include school supplies such as pencils, crayons, erasers, and an activity booklet that was specially designed by the organization members with various backgrounds from different courses. Going one step further, members of UP Pre-Medical Society have also volunteered to grant personal wishlists of children from CRIBS.

As Filipinos face a second Christmas amidst the pandemic, UP Pre-Medical Society is seeking help to fulfill the goals of PAMASKO 2021. The organization is accepting cash donations which will be used to purchase the packages for the beneficiaries. Donations can be coursed through the following channels:
