Even with the recommendation of health officials, a recent survey found out that men are less likely to wear face masks in public because they believe that it’s a sign of ‘weakness’.

A study by researchers from the Middlesex University London and the Mathematical Science Research Institute in Berkeley, California surveyed 2,459 people about the coronavirus. According to the study, “Men more than women agree that wearing a face-covering is shameful, not cool, a sign of weakness, and a stigma.”
The study said that men have a lesser intent to cover their faces than women. This is more evident in countries where face-covering isn’t mandatory.
The study also found that men tend to report negative emotions when wearing a face-covering.
Moreover, the study also points out that this is linked to how men believe that they are less likely to contract the disease.
The researchers also find this ironic because studies show that the coronavirus impacts men more than women, with 60% of COVID-19 deaths being men.

With this said, it is important to note that the researchers say that even if the sample size of the study is heterogeneous, it is not a representative sample of people living in the USA.
