A “Supermoon” Flower Moon will be greeting our night skies this May, and it’s something you don’t want to miss because this May’s full moon will be the last in a series of four “supermoons” this year.

According to NASA, the Maine Farmer’s Almanac first published “Indian” names for the Full Moons in the 1930s. During this time of year, flowers are abundant, hence the name “Flower Moon.” It was named by the Algonquin tribes, of what is now the northeastern United States.
The “Flower Moon” is also called different names like the “Corn Planting Moon” and the “Milk Moon.” This full moon is also the second full moon of spring. The “Flower Moon” also corresponds to Vesak, also known as Buddha Purnima, a holiday observed by Buddhists across Asia. This holiday is also sometimes informally called “Buddha’s Birthday.”

The “Supermoon” Flower Moon will be visible on May 7Â until May 9, 2020Â here in the Philippines.
