With the current outbreak of the Coronavirus disease, mortality rates have been increasing, thus proving how COVID-19 is neither your usual seasonal flu nor it is something to be nonchalant about. As much as the general public should take action, big companies should too, most especially when it comes to helping their respective surrounding communities. Nonetheless, insurance companies are no exception to this.

With this, insurance companies like Manulife have set another step forward in attending to their customers. As one of the leading financial services groups in the world, Manulife aims to help people make their decisions easier and lives better. The insurance company offers services ranging from investments, education, protection, savings and retirement, and most importantly, health.

Manulife Philippines curates comprehensive health plans specific to a person’s gender. Aside from this, the insurance company offers critical illness protection as well. Once a customer is diagnosed with any disease present in the company’s list of illnesses, the customer’s insurance plan would eventually aid in funding medical expenses and treatments. Manulife’s selection of 60 critical illnesses covers multiple diseases of the circulatory system, nervous system, excretory system, muscular system, respiratory system, digestive system, and the collagen. Hematology-related diseases, forms of disability, and other specific diseases like Cancer and HIV are also covered. People aged 15 to 60 years old are eligible for critical illness coverage and will be covered for 20 years or even up to the age of 75. Aside from critical illness protection, there will also be a daily hospitalization assistance provided in any case of hospital confinement. The customer will receive cash support on a daily basis up to a whole year of confinement, in hopes to come as an aid to help with the customer’s hospital expense. Another benefit that comes with the critical illness coverage is security not only for the customer himself but for their loved ones too. Another perk to this coverage is that customers get their money back after a 20-year coverage period for staying healthy.

In line with the company’s health insurance plans, Manulife Philippines has announced to extend special services and to provide additional support to their clients whilst the duration of the ongoing current crisis.

First, Manulife Philippines will provide an extended deadline for filing COVID-19 related claims. The insurance company is waiving its 30-day notification and 90-day requirements submission deadlines for any requests closely related to COVID-19 from March 10 to June 30, 2020. Second, Manulife Philippines would grant an extended premium payment period of 60 days to customers after their due date for all life insurance policies issued by Manulife institutions, whose due dates fall between March 16, 2020, to April 30, 2020.

Aside from extending their deadlines and payment period, Manulife Philippines has also provided benefits and additional coverage to customers diagnosed with COVID-19 themselves with no additional costs. First, the insurance company offers an additional hospitalization benefit, which entails an allotment of an additional P1,500 per day of hospitalization, given a bare maximum of 10 days. Second, Manulife offers the new diagnosis benefit, which would grant the customer a one-time diagnosis benefit of P10,000 upon being diagnosis positive for COVID-19.

Manulife Philippines would affirm its ultimate commitment to protecting and supporting their clients’ health through the additional coverage benefits they would provide for their clients. In line with this, Richard Bates, President, and CEO of Manulife Philippines has stated, “We created our products and services to help Filipino families in times such as this. As a company that is committed to doing the right thing, I’d like to assure our customers that Manulife Philippines is with them in this fight against COVID-19.
