The Manila Muslim Cemetery will be the first appropriate burial place for Filipino Muslims in Manila City. It is supposed to cover about 2,400 square meters of land and will be built inside the Manila South Cemetery. The exclusive burial ground will also include a cultural hall for Filipino Muslims.

“It is hereby declared the policy of the City Government of Manila to confer recognition to the Muslim community in Manila with their inherent cultural attributes and customary traditions, especially in terms of caring for the remains of their departed, by defining a burial ground in the South Cemetery and a special body intended to manage [it],” Ordinance No. 8608 reads.

Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso defends the necessity of the cemetery. He noted that Filipino Muslims living in Manila have to be transported to burial places in Bulacan, Taguig, or Mindanao after passing due to the absence of a burial place in Manila.
