The Daily Mail has named Robert Pattinson as “the most handsome man in the world.” Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Julian De Silva declared this based on the ‘science’ behind the Golden Ratio of Beauty Phi.
Originating from the European Renaissance, the Golden Ratio of Beauty Phi was once popularly used by artists and architects to create their masterpieces.
It was used for several things and is famously known for its application by Leonardo Da Vinci in the Vitruvian Man — the perfect human male body.
Scientists then went on to adapt the Golden Ratio to a mathematical formula that measures physical perfection.
By taking the measurements of any human face and calculating the ratios we can qualify the beauty of any individual.
Apparently, the closer the ratios of a face or body are to the number 1.618 (Phi), the more beautiful they are.
University of Nebraska professor Kendra Schmid attested that a ‘perfect’ face would have the length of an ear equal to the length of the nose, and the width of an eye equal to the distance between the eyes. In accordance with this, Pattinson was found to be 92.15% “accurate” to the Golden Ratio of Beauty Phi.
Dr. De Silva, who runs the Centre For Advanced Facial Cosmetic And Plastic Surgery, in London, explained: “Robert Pattinson was the clear winner when all elements of the face were measured for physical perfection.”

“These brand new computer mapping techniques allow us to solve some of the mysteries of what it is that makes someone physically beautiful and the technology is useful when planning patients’ surgery,” De Silva said of the technology used to determine the list.
He went on to illustrate that Pattinson was a standout when compared to other celebrities, in terms of face value. “He was in the top five for nearly all the categories because he has such classically shaped features and a wonderful chiselled jaw,” De Silva declared.
Pattinson is followed by Henry Cavill, Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, David Beckham, Idris Elba, Kanye West, and Ryan Gosling on the list.
