Just when you thought you’d run out of things to explore in the historic walled city, they reveal even more areas for the public to experience. The Intramuros Administration recently announced on their Facebook page the opening of Fort Santiago’s historic dungeons for public viewing.

The dungeons are open to visitors from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day. Entrance to the dungeons is already included in Fort Santiago fees which charge Php 75 for adults and Php 50 students/seniors/PWDs.
According to GMANews, the dungeons are made up of storage vaults and the powder magazine of the Baluarte de Santa Barbara, a stone bastion which was built in 1592.
During World War II, the dungeons were used by the Japanese to imprison resistance fighters and political prisoners.
