The city government of Manila revealed at at least 60 metric tons of garbage were cleaned up from Rizal Park from Christmas Eve up to Christmas Day morning.
On December 24 up to the morning of December 25, about 12 metric tons were hauled from the park. Additionally, 51 metric tons were gathered from the afternoon of December 25 up to December 26 11 AM, said Julius Leonen, the city’s public information chief.
He revealed that this volume of garbage was way above what was gathered during the same period in 2018.
Leonen did not give the figures on the number of visitors but stressed that they came trickling in after the rains stopped before midnight on Wednesday.
The National Parks Development Committee said visitors to Rizal Park were reminded to “take their garbage with them or dispose them properly.”
