Almost two weeks since the South East Asian Games opening, authorities have revealed that they had to shoot down unidentified drones at the time of the ceremony to protect the public from potential danger.

The director for Games and Security and Safety, retired general Gregorio Pio Catapang, told the reporter from evening news show 24 Oras that he ordered to take down a total number of seven drones that were up in the air upon the arrival of President Duterte and Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah at the venue.
He said the reason for it was that drones can carry “mini-bombs” that can easily be dropped from the sky. The drones were taken down with special electronic drone guns that force the pilot to lose control of them.
According to the report, the drones were not recovered and authorities weren’t able to gather information about those who flew them. However, after evaluation, the drones were concluded to be of the commercial type that took videos.
Only one drone was discovered to be from Malaysian visitors who did not know the area was a no-fly zone.
