Can you imagine Hello, Love, Goodbye with a different love team?

Daniel Padilla revealed on Tonight with Boy Abunda that the film, which has been called the country’s highest-grossing movie of all time, was supposed to star him and Kathryn Bernardo instead of Alden and Kathryn.

As to why he turned the role down, he said, “I just thought it was time. Napag-usapan namin na after The Hows Of Us, magpapahinga muna kami [as a love team].”

[“I just thought it was time. We agreed that after The Hows of Us, we would take a break as a love team.”]

He told Boy Abunda that it wasn’t easy. He shared, “‘Anong mangyayari? Paano tatanggapin ‘to?’ Gusto nating protektahan si Kathryn. Kailangan mo ring ibigay ang tiwala mo e. Kailangan mong ibigay ang tiwala sa nakaisip ng pagsasamang ‘yon.

[“What will happen? How will it be received? We want to protect Kathryn. You also have to give your trust. You have to trust whoever thought of that pairing.”]

Daniel said he didn’t feel jealous but that it was a “different feeling.” According to him, “Noong umalis siya, I was in dark times. Minsan nasa banyo ako for hours. Nandoon lang ako. Minsan naiisip mo, ‘Ano na nga bang nangyayari doon?’ Hindi naman sa iniisipan ko ng masama si Alden. It’s just different. At hindi ko naman puwedeng tawagan [si Kathryn] anytime dahil nagsh-shoot sila. Nakakausap ko siya umaga at gabi. Those times na wala si Kathryn, God, anong gagawin ko sa oras na ‘to?

[“When she left, I was in dark times. Sometimes I’d be in the bathroom for hours. I’d just sit there. Sometimes I’d think, ‘What’s happening there? It’s not that I have ill thoughts for Alden. It’s just different. I can’t just call [Kathryn] anytime because they’re shooting. We talk in the morning and at night. Those times when she wasn’t with me, God, what will I do in my spare time?'”]

However, he only has good words for the film. In the past, he has said, “Kanina nga nagsimba kami para lang magpasalamat sa lahat ng mga blessings na natatamo niya at natatamo ko rin and ayun masaya siyempre kasi ang tagumpay niya ay tagumpay ko rin.”

[“A while ago we went to church to say thank you for all the blessings we received. I’m happy because her victory is also my victory.”]

Hello, Love, Goodbye has earned P880,603,490 as of September 3, 2019. Alden stars as Ethan, a bartender who falls in love with Kathryn’s Joy, as they face struggles as migrant workers in Hong Kong.
