Halo Halo Collective: A Community of Filipino Bloggers and Creatives in San Francisco

Halo Halo Collective strives to empower and connect all generations of Filipino creatives. Through events and a growing online community, they aim to cultivate an empowering network of meaningful relationships and creative opportunities. They strive to recognize their cultural roots, celebrate their diversity, share their stories, and inspire collaborations with one another and within the Filipino-American community.

Founded by six Pinays – Abbie Fontanilla, Emily Santos-Farrales, Johanna Galang-Vizmanos, Kimiko De Pedro, Nerrissa Senores and Maica Sta. Ana – a strong community was built in the Bay Area. They launched Halo Halo Collective in October last year along with 12 other Filipino women bloggers, created meaningful and inspiring dialogue, and organized a tropical-inspired photoshoot.

Since then, Halo Halo has been growing as they organize community-based events. These aren’t just typical events, either. They collaborate, partner, and support Filipino-owned brands and businesses. Some of their past events were Friendsgiving, where they donated 3 big balikbayan boxes full of clothes to the Philippine Red Cross with the help of  Philippine Airlines; a Wellness event, where they had workout sessions, vocal meditation, and self-love confidence workshops; and a Galentine’s at the Spa event, where they supported a Filipinx entrepreneur and spoiled the guests with skincare goodies.

Aside from community-based events, the co-founders also collaborated with Tanduay for the Golden State Warriors game and partnered with JC Events and Modeling and Neo Colors Production for the Philippine Independence Day celebration in New York City.

Last October 12th, Halo Halo Collective celebrated their 1 Year Anniversary at Trademark and Copyright San Francisco, where more than 40 Filipinx creatives came together to celebrate, network, and embrace Filipino culture and mentality through a fruitful and inspiring panel discussion, a yummy food selection from partners like Seafood City and SF Chickenbox, and a lot of awesome goodies! Sounds like a fun event, right? As a safe space, the room was filled with so much love, acceptance, and positivity. You didn’t just take home a swag bag; you also took home some Filipino pride for sure!

And oh! How amazing is it that they celebrated their anniversary on the same month as Filipino American History Month? Halo Halo Collective will continue to create fun and meaningful events, as well as create more opportunities for the Filipinx-American community. So, if you know a Filipinx creative who lives in the SF Bay Area, tag them here! 😉
