Millie Bobbie Brown Refused to Listen to Hopper’s Speech Before Shooting Emotional ‘Stranger Things’ Scene

Stranger Things 3 spoilers ahead!

So, I think by now most of us have finished watching Stranger Things and are in the process of trying to figure out how to cope with certain things that happened during the season. Personally, whenever I think about Hopper’s letter to Eleven I get pretty emotional and start tearing up. (I’m having a hard time writing this now because there are tears in my eyes!) Apparently, even Eleven herself had a difficult time with the speech.

Stranger Things star Millie Bobbie Brown shared with Entertainment Weekly that she didn’t hear or read Hopper’s speech prior to filming. “I just immediately wanted to put a camera on me and find the way I react and the way I reacted was pure devastation and sadness, and a distraught child that just lost her father or so she thinks,” the young actress said.

The production had apparently prerecorded David Harbour, who plays Eleven’s adoptive dad Jim Hopper on the show, reading the speech and played it for Millie when they were shooting the scene of her reading it. What transpired in front of the camera were her own emotions. As the dad of the group for three seasons, losing Hopper was really heart-wrenching. Millie shared that she and David had become close friends which made saying goodbye harder.

A lot of fans are still trying to figure out what happened to Hopper. There’s been a lot of speculation about him being the American the Russians were referring to in the last scene but the guys over at Stranger Things have refused to share season four details. We’ll just have to wait until next year, but we’re definitely crossing our fingers!
