DLSU’s Beloved Campus Cat Archer Has Passed Away

Archer, who is considered by popular sentiment to be the ‘King’ of De La Salle University’s cat population, sadly passed away this June 29. He had been suffering a number of health complications and despite efforts to turn it around, he eventually succumbed to them. A post on the DLSU PUSA Facebook group shared: “Archer earned his wings and crossed the rainbow bridge this morning. He will be missed.”

Archer had actually found his ‘forever home’ back in March with Ate Jenny, a retired DLSU guard and Archer’s first ‘mom’. He was adopted in hopes of seeing to his fatty liver and chronic kidney disease. His health had suffered after years of students indiscriminately feeding him human food which was inadvertently bad for him.

The move to re-home him was in an effort to regulate his diet better and ensure he saw frequent and proper medical attention. Unfortunately, the chronic kidney disease still progressed to a possible stage 4 while his liver problems persisted. Possible lymphoma was also diagnosed with Archer’s lymph nodes in his legs beginning to swell.

Ultimately, the vet advised against further procedures as Archer was too weak to handle any surgeries or the intake of anesthesia. Archer was given pain medication to make his remaining time here as comfortable as possible.

There was an outpouring of love and support for Archer from everyone online. He will be sorely missed, especially by the Lasallian community.

Rest in peace, Archer
