Count on Japan to go the extra mile for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games!
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is partnering with the University of Tokyo to launch Gundam models into space to give messages of support for the competing athletes.

According to the official organizing committee of the Tokyo Olympics, they will be deploying a G-SATELLITE that will house two plastic models of Japan’s most iconic characters — Mobile Suit Gundam and Char’s Zaku II. They will each be outfitted with a special plating that can withstand the conditions of space, as well as cameras and transmitters that will allow us to watch them orbit around the earth.
Attached to the satellite will also be an electronic bulletin board that will display messages of encouragement to all those participating in the Olympics.

The G-SATELLITE is scheduled to be launched from the International Space Station sometime between March to April 2020.
