Megan Young and Mikael Daez have been sharing glimpses of their trip to Iceland on Instagram the past week, and we’re fueled with travel envy!
The couple revealed that they have been looking forward to their trip, even calling it the “highlight” of their April adventure, with an action-packed itinerary of hiking icy mountains and camping near volcanic areas.
Upon arriving, the cold weather initially threw them off by being much harsher than they had expected. Mikael Daez wrote in his first photo in Iceland, “We’ve been here for 36 hours already and we’ve had to purchase so many extra layers because we underestimated the cold. The craziest thing is, one of the locals said that today is a “happily warm” day!”
However, he said that it only made them much more excited about what’s to come for their trip. “Regardless, we’re having fun layering up in this weather and it’s going to get more intense as we hike for hours, camp during rainy nights and struggle to brew good coffee in the midst of crazy winds,” he said.

Meanwhile, Megan Young chimed in with her own thoughts about the cold weather on her own Instagram photo. “Day 1 of our Iceland tour. We didn’t know what to expect with the weather. We knew it would be cold – but that’s about it.”
She added that they had to ask around for what to wear for their hikes and was grateful for the help they received. “We weren’t sure with the gear we needed for our hikes so we decided to ask around. Everyone we asked was so helpful. From giving us a rundown of the base layers we needed to what kind of material our clothes needed to be,” she said. “After a day of going around, I can happily say that my toes are warm and I don’t need to worry about the cold.”

The couple shared a number of photos of their hikes and adventures across the country which Megan revealed she has never done before. “Didn’t think I’d be doing adventures like this. Hiking up mountains, passing thru rivers, and getting to see the beauty of the world ? happy that I get to experience all this with you, [Mikael],” she said.

In another post, Mikael talked about how proud he was of Megan for taking on new adventures and conquering her fear “of everything.”
“Having courage doesn’t mean you don’t show fear. It’s being able to try things out despite your fear. As you can see in this photo, she climbed the mountain and overcame her fear,” he wrote. “Unfortunately, she forgot to look up and admire the view HAHA 😛 But it’s cool, I got the photo to show her what she missed. #IGotchuBonez#IkawBahalaSaClimbAkoBahalSaView”

The couple also took a dip in a hot spring, visited Black Beach, spent time with tame horses, hiked up a glacier, and saw the Northern Lights!

This is definitely a vacation worth remembering for the two.
