AsiaPOP Comicon Manila is Returning This August and We’re Excited!

Asiapop Comicon 2017

One of the most important events in a Filipino geek’s calendar is the AsiaPOP Comicon Manila. Already considered as Asia’s biggest pop culture con, it brings together comic followers, artists, designers, animators, toy manufacturers, collectors, movie buffs, music lovers, cosplayers, gamers, and techies for a weekend of fun. After two successful runs, APCC is returning this year on August 25 to 27 at the SMX Convention Center, and this year’s run promises bigger and geekier things.

This year, the convention has partnered with Marvel and Netflix so we’re expecting exciting activities from both studios. One of the highlights of last year’s APCC was Hall M, a Marvel Showcase where we saw never-before-seen footage for Doctor Strange. Could the same happen this 2017 for the upcoming Black Panther? And since Netflix is one of the best things to happen in entertainment, we hope to see exclusives or hear news on our favorite shows or upcoming ones.

For its first run in 2015, APCC brought Paul Bettany from Iron Man and The Avengers, Nathalie Emmanuel from Game of Thrones, and Colton Haynes from Arrow and Teen Wolf. Last year, the organizers took things up a notch by bringing in Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things, Nicholas Hoult from X-Men, Joe Dempsie from Game of Thrones, and Claire Holt from The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. There’s no word yet who they’ll bring this year, but we’re already expecting bigger names.

As part of tradition, APCC 2017 will also feature the Cosplay Authority Global Challenge (CAGE), one of the biggest and farthest-reaching cosplay competitions of its kind in the world.
